Landon Thomas, 53, formerly of Harrisburg, was sentenced yesterday by Judge John F. Cherry to serve 12 ½ years to 25 years in a state correctional institute for a series of robberies in the mid-state in 2013. Thomas apologized to the victims before being sentenced, indicating that he had squandered his life due to a drug addiction. Judge Cherry encouraged the Carnegie Mellon graduate and former Marine to work with youthful offenders he encounters in state prison to help them understand the toll that criminal activity can take on a person’s life. During August and September of 2013, Thomas committed a series of convenience store robberies in Dauphin, Cumberland, and Lebanon Counties. He was caught by police after committing a robbery at the Fulton Bank in the City of Harrisburg. While none of the robberies involved a weapon, Thomas apologized for the fear that he caused each of the victims. Thomas will also serve a consecutive five years of state probation and both sentences are to be served consecutive to a state parole detainer for the defendant. Chief Deputy District Attorney Jennifer Gettle credited the joint effort by law enforcement, including police from Harrisburg City; Lebanon City; Lower Paxton Township; Derry Township; Camp Hill Borough; Hampden Township; Lower Swatara Township; North Cornwall Township; the Pennsylvania State Police; and the FBI.
