March 31, 2015- Commonwealth v Christopher Bianchi: On March 31, 2015, Christopher Bianchi was sentenced by Dauphin County Judge Scott Arthur Evans to five to ten years in state prison for his 2013 conviction for Person Not to Possess a Firearm. Bianchi was initially sentenced to county prison as well as a lengthy probationary term. However, while on probation, he was arrested in Cumberland County on illegal firearm possession charges. Earlier this year, Bianchi was sentenced to two to seven years of state incarceration on his Cumberland County charge. Judge Evans revoked his supervision and re-sentenced Bianchi to a consecutive five to ten years in state prison. The initial case stems from Bianchi’s 2010 arrest by Harrisburg Police after he fought with police officers and was found in possession of a loaded 9mm Ruger handgun and an arsenal of ammunition and body armor. Bianchi’s Cumberland County case involved a search of his residence where authorities discovered two firearms, ammunition and body armor. Bianchi is not permitted to possess firearms due to his prior criminal record. Senior Deputy District Attorney Stephen R. Zawisky indicated that “Mr. Bianchi was given a chance a couple years back and then simply couldn’t keep his hands off of firearms.” Zawisky further noted that “sentencing guidelines on illegal gun possession justifiably call for significant state prison sentences.”
