On December 5, 2019, following a two day trial, a Dauphin County Jury convicted William T. Romberger, 33, of rape of an unconscious person and indecent assault. The charges stem from an incident that occurred on July 25, 2018, when the defendant began having sexual intercourse with the victim while she was asleep in bed and unaware that the activity was occurring. The victim woke up during the rape and immediately called 911. Trooper Timothy Krauth responded to the scene within minutes and the victim was taken by ambulance for a forensic medical examination. William Romberger’s DNA was found in the samples taken during the medical examination. Within hours of the incident, Trooper Hilary Faust obtained a statement from William Romberger and charged him with rape. The rapid and coordinated response of the members of the Pennsylvania State Police- Lykens Barracks and the evidence they were able to quickly secure were crucial to the outcome of this case.
President Judge Richard A. Lewis scheduled sentencing for March 4, 2020. Romberger remains incarcerated in the Dauphin County Prison where he has been held since his arrest on July 25, 2018. Deputy District Attorney Katie Adam prosecuted the case.
