In the midst of the COVID-19 "Coronavirus" pandemic, the Middletown Borough Police Department continues to strive for excellence through selfless service. Based on the recommendations of the CDC, and Pennsylvania State Department of Health, we are making some minor changes to our daily operations. These changes are being implemented in order to aid in slowing the spread of COVID-19, as well as to keep the safety of the residents, Borough staff and community paramount.
To follow the practice of social distancing the Middletown Borough Police Department has implemented the following measures, effective IMMEDIATELY.
Guests are restricted at the Middletown Borough Police Department, unless there for an official purpose vital to the operations of the Department.
All guests will be met outside and, if possible, remain outside during the visit.
When appropriate, Officers will handle calls for service, and follow ups to those calls, via phone or email. Residents, and those within our Borough, are asked to please provide a good contact number to Dispatch, so that prompt responses can be completed by our Department.
When it is necessary for an Officer(s) to respond to a location, they will conduct business outside, if possible.
Officers will continue to conduct our normal, high visibility roving and stationary patrol throughout the Borough.
Officers in public will REMAIN approachable, as we have always been. HOWEVER, Officers will remain at least six feet from others (when possible) and will not shake hands, high five or hug others. Please do not be offended by this, as it is a precaution to protect both our Officers and the general public from the spread of COVID-19.
Officers will continue to respond to calls for service and there will be NO interruption of Police Service to the Borough.
We ask that anyone calling 911, for any reason, please advise the dispatcher of any persons in the home/business who may be ill, or may be suspected of having symptoms similar to COVID-19. Symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose and difficulty breathing.
These are uncertain times and we ask everyone to please remain calm as we all work through this difficult situation TOGETHER. We are also asking that community members periodically check in with elderly, sick neighbors, family and friends. Call and make sure they are physically and mentally OK. Ensure sure they have enough food, water and medication. We all need to work together. Do not place yourself, or anyone in your family at risk of contracting COVID-19, through unnecessary contact with others. If physically checking on others, please keep contact to a minimum. Please continue to monitor local media and heed all warnings issued by Local, State or Federal agencies.
A SPECIAL MESSAGE to those looking to commit crimes in our Borough... Our Officers will still be out, ever vigilant, and ready to arrest you. During a time of National Emergency, please be aware that certain crimes carry ENHANCED penalties, and you will be prosecuted to the utmost extent of the law.
Respectfully,
Dennis E Morris
Interim Chief of Police
