In an effort to keep the public better informed about crime activity in their neighborhoods, the Swatara Township Police Department has partnered with LexisNexis, which offers a product called the Community Crime Map. This crime map is connected to the Police Department's record management system to provide as much information as we can about the activities that are reported to the Police Department. There are some crimes that are not listed on the crime map in order to protect ongoing investigations and to protect the privacy of persons involved in sensitive cases. Our goal through providing crime mapping is to help the public visualize the crime activity in their area so they can make informed decisions about how to stay safe, avoid becoming a victim of crime and be on the alert for suspicious activity.
Citizens may access the Community Crime Map online at https://communitycrimemap.com/. Once at the site, citizens may choose to subscribe to the site (for free) in order to receive regular email alerts about crime in a specific area.
The Swatara Township Police Department is hopeful that providing this type of information to our citizens will further build trust and improve communications between the police and the public. We believe this will lead to the detection of more crime and ultimately help us work together to reduce and prevent crime.
We ask that citizens use the information contained within the crime map in a responsible manner. Any questions about the service can be directed to the Administrative Lieutenant at the Police Department via phone (717-564-2550).
