A central Pennsylvania native, Superintendent Stauffer graduated from Ephrata Senior High School in Lancaster County. He then received an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the Harrisburg Area Community College, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Penn State University. Superintendent Stauffer was the recipient of the “Andrew S. Donahue Award” upon his graduation from Penn State’s Capital College for excellence in the study of Criminal Justice. He also graduated from the 68th Municipal Police Academy at the Harrisburg Area Community College and was presented with the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police “Driver Proficiency Award.”
Superintendent Stauffer gained employment with the Swatara Township Police Department in 1998 and began his police career in the Patrol Division. He was promoted to Patrol Corporal in 2005, Patrol Sergeant in 2008, Patrol Services Lieutenant in 2009, Deputy Chief of Police in 2022, Chief of Police in 2024, and Superintendent of Police on February 6, 2025.
During the course of his career, Superintendent Stauffer received advanced training in crash reconstruction and served as one of the Police Department’s Technical Collision Investigators certified by the Pennsylvania State Police. Due to that advanced training, he served as an active member of the Dauphin County Accident Reconstruction Team from 2005 until 2014. During that time, he also served as an Inspection Mechanic for the County Reconstruction Team, having been certified by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to perform safety inspections. Superintendent Stauffer completed Northwestern University’s prestigious “School of Police Staff and Command” in 2009 with the 278th class. He also received advanced training on interpersonal communication through the Access Employee Assistance program and served as a Police Peer to officers in need. During his career, he has also attended numerous courses and seminars covering such topics as community policing, leadership, management, liability, human resources, and the National Incident Management System.
Superintendent Stauffer has received numerous awards from the Police Department to include two Awards of Heroism, the Life Saving Award, the Award of Merit, the Team Achievement Award, and the Letter of Commendation.
Superintendent Stauffer is a member of the Dauphin County Chiefs of Police Association where he has served as the Secretary, and currently serves as the Treasurer. He is also a member of the Central Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association, the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association, and the Fraternal Order of Police. Over the years, he has served on multiple committees including the PennDOT LTAP Advisory Committee, the Neighborhood Dispute Settlement Board, the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission Subcommittee, the PCCD Juvenile Diversion Subcommittee, and the Dauphin County Local Emergency Planning Committee.
