If you haven't noticed already, 2020 is a census year, which means that you will be receiving mailers from the U.S. Census Bureau asking for your participation. Although we haven't received any specific reports at the time of this posting, there is a possibility that criminals will attempt to represent themselves as Census Bureau employees in order to obtain your personal and private information.
The Swatara Township Police Department would like to remind residents to be careful during this season. The Census Bureau will not send you unsolicited emails that request your information. The Census Bureau will never ask you for your social security number, your bank account numbers, or for money. If a Census Bureau employee is at your door you should ask for their valid ID badge (which includes their photograph, a watermark, and an expiration date). If you're unsure about the ID, you can call the Census Bureau at 844-330-2020 to speak with a Bureau representative.
