On Wednesday, February 01, 2023, at the Swatara Township public meeting the Swatara Township Police Department promoted Dave Milsteen to the rank of Lieutenant. Lieutenant Milsteen was sworn in by Magisterial District Judge Michael Smith with his wife and their children by his side.
Lt. Milsteen graduated from Hershey High School in 2001. Following High School, he attended Harrisburg Area Community College where he received an associate degree in Police Science. Milsteen attended HACC’s 85th Police Academy class and was subsequently hired part time as a Police Officer by the Hummelstown Borough Police Department and Northwest Lancaster County Regional Police Department.
Lieutenant Milsteen began his career with the Swatara Township Police Department in January 2006. Milsteen was assigned as a Patrol Officer where he excelled and was selected as a Field Training Officer. Milsteen was promoted to Patrol Corporal in 2010, and Patrol Sergeant in 2012. As a Lieutenant, Milsteen is a Patrol Division Commander overseeing A and D Patrol platoons.
During Lieutenant Milsteen's career at Swatara he has served as a Patrol Supervisor, the Police representative on the Swatara Township Emergency Management Agency, the Dauphin County Honor Guard, and as a Hostage Negotiator on the Dauphin County Crisis Response Team.
Lieutenant Milsteen has received several departmental awards which include the Team Achievement Award, Award of Merit, Life Saving Award, and the Medal of Heroism.
