On May 30, 2022 the Veterans of Foreign Wars (post 1213 in Rutherford) held their annual Memorial Day ceremony at Veterans Circle. Swatara Township Police is proud to join with the VFW and our community to honor the fallen and keep their memories alive.
Director Reider was honored with being the keynote speaker for this ceremony. Director Reider said that part of the word Memorial is memory. He spoke about the memories of his grandfather, JW Gammill a World War II veteran and the impact his grandfather had on his life. It is no doubt we owe a debt of gratitude to JW Gammill for his service and the impact he made on the Director inspiring him to serve our community for over 33 years.
During the service our local Boy and Girl Scouts assisted veterans with laying wreaths at each of our Armed Services Memorial wall. Lieutenant Krahling, a former Marine was chosen to lay the wreath to honor the sacrifice of those who have given their lives while serving in the United States Marine Corps.
Swatara Township Commissioners President Zubeck, Commissioner Ellis, Commissioner Tuckey and Magisterial District Judge Smith attended the ceremony.
To quote Banksy, "They say you die twice. Once when you stop breathing and the second, a bit later on, when somebody mentions your name for the last time." The Swatara Township Police is pleased to continue our relationship with VFW Post 1213 to keep the memories of fallen veterans alive.
