On January 21, 2020 a Township resident reported receiving a call from an individual claiming to be a Swatara Township Police Officer. The resident stated that this individual stated that he needed to purchase electronic currency and provide it to him over the phone or Police would come to his residence the following day and arrest him. The resident further stated that the phone call showed the Swatara Township Police phone number on his caller identification. The resident in this incident did not provide any information or money and contacted Swatara Police in person at which time it was determined to be a scam phone call.
The Swatara Police wants to alert citizens of this scam in case any other calls of this nature are received. If you receive this type of phone call do not provide any personal information or money to the caller. The Swatara Township Police will never contact individuals by phone requesting them to pay fines and cost in this manner.
