I want to make a statement on behalf of the Swatara Twp Police Department. What happened in Minneapolis was wrong, bad police procedure and should never have happened.
The whole world had to watch a human being killed at the hands of someone sworn to protect the sanctity of life. Every man and woman in the Swatara Twp Police Department offers their condolences to the family of George Floyd. We pledge our support for lawful protesters and we pledge to be part of all dialogue for positive change out of this tragedy. As the leader of the Swatara Twp Police Department I will continue to make it representative of the community we serve. I will continue to use sound hiring practices to make sure we hire intelligent, compassionate public servants. My heart is heavy watching our country go through the grief and anger citizens feel over injustice and police brutality.
WE ARE LISTENING
We are very appreciative of the support we have from our community.
We will continue to rely on input from our citizens through our established Citizens Advisory Council.
Our department has committed to taking part in efforts to review police policy and procedure. We will continue to work with our elected officials and community leaders to make sure that what happened in Minneapolis will never happen in Swatara Twp.
Sincerely,
Darrell R. Reider
Swatara Township Director of Public Safety
