The Swatara Township Police Department along with the Penn State Hershey Medical Center, hosted a new event this past weekend entitled “Walk with Kix.” This event featured our very own K-9 Kix and his handler Officer Scott Gibson. We teamed up with the Hershey Medical Center to bring a fun event to the Harrisburg Mall where children had the opportunity to meet K-9 Kix and learn about pedestrian and traffic safety. Groups of children were escorted around the mall by K-9 Kix, Officer Gibson and Cpl. Pokrop. There were multiple safety tips that were taught to the children as they walked with our four legged K-9 cop! Afterwards, children received multiple handouts from both Swatara Police and the Hershey Medical Center. Employees from the Hershey Medical Center also provided information on pedestrian safety and healthy eating habits. Swatara Township Commissioner Shaela Ellis, State Representative Thomas Mehaffie, Shelly Reider and multiple members of the Swatara Police Department’s patrol division were in attendance as well to support this event. The Swatara Township Police Department has a great working relationship with multiple businesses and organizations and we would like to thank the Penn State Hershey Medical Center for teaming up with us on this event. K-9 Kix had a blast and enjoyed seeing all of the children and adults who came out to learn about safety. Stay tuned to our Facebook Page and Website for more Community Service events that will be coming to your neighborhood in the near future.
